NKBA 40 Guidelines For Kitchen Design
Section 5 Room, Appliance, & Equipment Controls
Guideline 37 Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters
Guideline 37 Picture 1

Guideline 37

Ground fault circuit interrupters should be specified on all receptacles within the kitchen.
Comment: GFCI outlets should be a must in any kitchen or bath. The GFCI will protect you from electrical shocks caused by faulty appliances or shorts in plugs and cords. It could save your life should an electrical appliance such as a hair dryer get dropped into your sink or bath tub. The device senses the smallest change in current flow and shuts off the power in a fraction of a second.
